? FedEx Express package and freight standard list rates will increase an average of 6.9%-7.9% for U.S

These charges can add up quickly. Here?s are potential charges for a one-pound package shipped to a residential address in 2023:

  • A residential surcharge (increasing up to 18% in 2023)
  • A dimensional weight charge (higher than the actual weight charge, since it?s a light package)
  • A delivery area surcharge (increasing 8.5% in 2023)
  • A fuel surcharge (potentially as high as 22.5% of the whole shipment cost)

FedEx Freight Rate

Effective Jan. 2, 2023

The increase is set to take effect on Jan. 3, 2022, and will apply to all US domestic, US export and US import services. FedEx Ground, which delivers to businesses, and FedEx home delivery will increase by an average of 6.9%. FedEx Freight customers could see an increase of up to 7.9%.

The 6.9% average increase is nothing more than an average, so shippers using a 6.9% increase when planning for operational budgeting next year may be in for a rude awakening. Their actual impact could be much higher, especially for ecommerce businesses that are shipping primarily to residential destinations.

Service Impact of COVID-19

June 10, 2020, 10:00 AM CT

FedEx? is an essential business. Due to the crucial role we play in moving supply chains and delivering critical relief, FedEx is considered an essential business. We will continue to operate under state-of-emergency and shelter-in-place orders recently issued in the U.S.

These restrictions are disrupting the global supply chain. Air cargo capacity is limited, and we?ve had to make adjustments so that our international networks can best deliver much-needed goods and services in this constrained environment.

The impact of COVID-19 is causing local, state, and national governments around the world to issue work and travel restrictions on a daily basis, which is impacting our ability to meet our high standards of service. As a result, we have made the decision to suspend our money-back guarantee for all FedEx Express?, FedEx Ground?, FedEx Freight?, and FedEx Office services effective immediately until further notice. Because FedEx is an essential transportation service provider, we will continue operating as government restrictions and regulations allow.

Signature suspension notification

To help promote the safety of our employees and customers, FedEx signature guidelines are being temporarily adjusted for all shipments within the United States, with the exception of adult signature required (ASR) shipments. In efforts to minimize physical interactions, customers may be asked to verify recipient name in lieu of a physical signature. FedEx is still collecting recipient information; therefore, surcharges for these services will continue to be assessed. For shipments with the adult signature service option selected, couriers will still request a physical signature and require a government-issued photo ID.

The safety and well-being of our 475,000 team members is our top priority as they continue to deliver critical goods and services to support communities across the globe. As we continue to support the global supply chain, we are committed to following all the recommended practices for keeping our customers and team members safe. We are keeping our workforce informed about COVID-19, providing them with the proper personal protective equipment and informing them of the importance of social distancing, a clean workspace and careful personal hygiene.

We make adjustments to enable us to keep investing in our business and ensure that we continue to deliver the shipping solutions and service excellence you have come to expect from FedEx.

Dimensional Weight

Effective Jan. 2, 2017, the dimensional weight calculation for FedEx Express? and FedEx Ground? packages will change. Dimensional weight for all shipments within the U.S. and FedEx Express shipments between the U.S. and Puerto Rico will be calculated by multiplying the length by width by height of each package in inches and dividing the total by 139. Previously, dimensional weight for all shipments within the U.S. and FedEx Express shipments between the U.S. and Puerto Rico was calculated by dividing the total by 166.

If the chargeable weight of a FedEx Ground package exceeds 150 lbs., a prorated per-pound rate will be used. FedEx Ground applies dimensional weight to all shipments.

Dimensions of one-half inch or greater are rounded up to the next whole number; dimensions less than one-half inch are rounded down. The final calculation is rounded up to the next whole pound.

Shipping Changes effective 1.1.2015**

FedEx and UPS (and all major shipping carriers) announced their plans to begin calculating shipping rates using dimensional weight effective January 1, 2015. This change will have a measurable increase in the rates you will be charged to ship items. In an effort to encourage efficient packing, carriers will now use "dimensional weight" to help determine the most accurate shipping cost for a package. Dimensional weight is different from actual weight, and is more representative of the amount of truck space a package actually occupies.

The dimensional weight of a package can be calculated by measuring its dimensions in inches (length, width, height) and plugging them in to the following formula:

(Length x Width x Height)/166 = Dimensional Weight* (in pounds)

*Note the "dimensional factor" of 166 is currently used by UPS & FedEx but is subject to change.

Once calculated, an item's dimensional weight is compared to the actual weight. The higher weight will be the weight FedEx and UPS uses to calculate shipping for the package. Note this is the dimension of the box a product will typically ship in, not the product itself. Please be aware the dimensional weight of a product is most accurate when shipping single-item packages, but cannot accurately predict the dimensional weight of multiple items that ship together, nor can it account for packing material or free accessories included.

Smokin-it continues to offer the best shipping option for our products through FedEx and UPS. We continue to recycle, pack your purchases to protect the items from damage and follow FedEx and UPS standards for shipping. Please keep in mind our smokers are over sized and heavy.
